The whole concept of festivals in Hindu Mythology signifies victory of good over evil, Choti Diwali or Narak Chaturdashi also represents this concept. A day prior to this day, Lord Krishna smeared his forehead with the blood of Narkasaur, the demon who was killed by Satyabhama, one of the eight prominent queen of Lord Krishna. Her chariot was driven by the Lord himself and as a mark of victory and celebration applied Narkasur’s blood on his forehead. This day, on Narak Chaturdashi, the queens of Lord Krishna gave a complete bath to him which later was named as Diwali Snan or Abhyanga Snan.
The ritual and samagri of Diwali Snan:
- Fragrant perfumed soap
- Scented Oil
- Ubtan consisting of Kapur (Camphor), Chandan (Sandalwood), Haldi (Turmeric), Rose Petals extracts, Orange Peel, Any other flowers/herbs.
- Let the skin absorb the applied scented oil for 15-20 minutes
- Apply the Ubtan
- Rinse off with Water
- Then enjoy the bath with perfumed soap
- Dry with a towel and don a new attire.
